Hello everyone,

Just a reminder to donate your fresh fruit and vegetables tomorrow (Wednesday, 10/17) at Brooklyn Bridge CSA distribution at 250 Cadman Plaza West between 5-8pm. Please come and donate produce that you’ve bought or harvested from your garden, or parts of your CSA share to our emergency food provider, First Presbyterian Church. More information about this city-wide food donation effort called Care to Share in our original message below.
See you there!

Dear Brooklyn Bridge CSA current, past, and prospective members,
We are excited to announce that Brooklyn Bridge CSA will be taking part in the second-annual Care to Share, a city-wide effort to donate fresh produce to feed the hungry.
In the spirit of the fall harvest season and the Jewish holiday Sukkot, Care to Share encourages volunteers to symbolically fulfill the Jewish custom of gleaning. On next Wednesday, October 17, we invite you, our beloved CSA community, to stop by our pickup site (Congregation Mt. Sinai at 250 Cadman Plaza West) between 5-8pm and donate fresh produce that you’ve purchased or grown in your home gardens so that we can donate it to our local emergency food provider, the First Presbyterian Church. For those of you that are current members, we encourage you to give a portion of your fresh produce shares that day for us to donate. We also ask that you please help us spread the word to family, friends, neighbors, coworkers and anyone you know to drop by and donate produce.

While we already donate any leftover produce each week to First Presbyterian as part of our Brooklyn Bridge CSA food justice commitment, we are hoping to donate an even larger amount this time around to serve the growing need and help combat food insecurity. Attached to this email, you will find the Care to Share guide–six pages of information on poverty and hunger in New York City, food assistance programs, why buying local produce and being part of a CSA helps, and more. We encourage you to take a read so that we can all know more about the community-wide benefits of our investment in the Brooklyn Bridge CSA, and why our unique focus on food justice is so important.
Care to Share is a program of Americorps, UJA-Federation of New York, Hazon (one of our parent organizations), and the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty.
Thank you in advance for your donations of produce, and for spreading the word so that others can donate, too!
If you have any questions about Care to Share or joining the Brooklyn Bridge CSA, please let us know.
